Friday, April 30th - Friday Night Chico Airport Criterium - 6:00pm(for As & Bs) & 7:00pm(for Category "C" & Junior racing) (Part of the 2010 Spring Chico Airport Criterium Series)
Saturday, May 1st - Coal Canyon Circuit Race - 9:00am (Part of the 2010 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series - Juniors too!!)
Sunday, May 2nd - Lomo to Jonesville Uphill Time Trial - 9:00am (Event #14 in the 16-race 2010 Butte Hill Climb Time Trial Series!!)
Friday, April 30th - Chico Airport Criterium - 6:00PM(As & Bs) & 7:00PM(Cs and Kids Races) - This event will be held at the Chico Airport Criterium course starting at 6:00pm(for As & Bs) and 7:00pm(for Category C and Kids race)! Registration will open at 5:40pm on Convair avenue at the Airport - with the first event starting promptly at 6:00pm. We'll be using our standard Tuesday Night Chico Airport Criterium course starting/finishing at Convair Avenue - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Chico-Airport-Tuesday-Night-Crit-Course . Category "A" riders will go for 50 Minutes PLUS 3 laps, while Category "B" riders will go for 45 Minutes PLUS 3 laps - Women's Category picked separately. The Category C and Kids Only Race will go for 20 Minutes PLUS 3 laps. Riders must sign in and wear a helmet in order to compete. RAIN OR WET PAVEMENT WILL CANCEL THIS EVENT. (Part of the 2010 Spring Chico Airport Criterium Series!) ***PLEASE NOTE: There is a chance that PG&E will be working on the roads out there - if that is the case, we will move to the LONG COURSE at the north end of the airport.
Saturday, May 1st - Coal Canyon Circuit Race - 9:00AM - A newer Circuit Race Course to try out for 2010!! This 5.9 mile long loop goes over rolling terrain and climbs approximately 290 feet per lap. Will suit a variety of riders. Registration will open at 8:30am NEAR the intersection of Coal Canyon Road-Wheelock Road & Hwy. 70. The Category "A" Race will go off at 9:00AM, the Category "B" Race will go at 9:01AM, and the Category "C" & Juniors Race will go at 9:02AM. Category "A" & "B" Riders will do 6 laps each - for a total of 35.4 Miles and 1,740 feet of total climbing. The Category "C" & Junior Race will go 3 laps - for a total of 17.7 Miles and 870 feet of total climbing (the "C" race will not be counted towards the Road R.A.C.E. Series). The Start/Finish Line is located on Coal Canyon Road - just up the road from the intersection of Wheelock Road & Hwy. 70. You will travel in a clockwise direction from Coal Canyon Road to Hwy. 70....and back to Coal Canyon Road....for one lap. For a map of this course, please visit: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Coal-Canyon-Circuit-Race . Water bottle hand-ups will be solely dependent upon volunteers. Parking is somewhat available at the Start/Finish area of the course - but the best bet is to park at Spring Valley School and just ride down to the Start Area on Coal Canyon Road........approximately 2.7 miles away from the school(and downhill when heading to Coal Canyon). Most USA Cycling rules apply to these races - you know, WEAR YOUR HELMET, don't ride like a nutcase, and all that good stuff. Sandbaggers are strongly discouraged (a Sandbagger would be a Category "A" rider racing a Category "B" or "C" race - must be completely obvious to the Race Director). The Race Director reserves the right to DQ any rider deemed unsafe or unsportsmanlike. A mention about Tri Bars - You can have Tri Bars on your bicycle - BUT, you must NOT use them if you are in a pack or paceline - especially on this course! Normally, in a United States Cycling Federation race, you would not be allowed to have them on your bicycle in a mass-start event like this one - but I know many of us like them on our bicycles and use them for training. This isn't the World Championships - we do these Circuit Races for fun, fitness and practice - but please do NOT use your Tri Bars in a pack/paceline situation. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY! (Part of the 2010 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series)
Sunday, May 2nd - Lomo to Jonesville Time Trial (starts at Hwy. 32 at entrance to Butte Meadows; ends at the snowmobile parking lot in Jonesville) - This is the Event #14 in the Butte Hill Climb Time Trial Series - This 10.2 mile course climbs approximately 2,000 feet - starting at Lomo and finishing at the parking lot up in Jonesville. This is considered a Category 1 climb, and a map of this course can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Lomo-to-Jonesville-Time-Trial . And let me say this - it is amazingly beautiful up there!!! Registration will open at 8:30am at the corner of Hwy. 32 and the turn-off to Butte Meadows(look for me in the parking area across the Hwy.).......first rider will go off at 9:01am and we will go in 1-minute intervals. (Event #14 in the 16-race 2010 Butte Hill Climb Time Trial Series!!)

Sunday, April 18th - Aguas Frias Road Race(all flat road race) - 9:00AM - It's back!! The Aguas Frias Road Race is back for 2010! This is a flat Road Race of approximately 33 miles in length. Registration will open at 8:30am near Dayton 4-corners - but just south of the intersection, on Aguas Frias Road (the Start/Finish Line is where we have the Start Line for the Aguas Frias 10-Mile Time Trials). Category "A", "B", "C" and Juniors will each do 1 lap, for a total of 33 miles and approximately 128 feet of elevation gain. Category "A" will start at 9:00am, Category "B" will start at 9:02am, and Category "C" and Juniors will start at 9:03am. For a map of this course, please visit: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Aguas-Frias-RR-Course Again, most United States Cycling Federation rules apply to these races - you know, WEAR YOUR HELMET, don't ride like a nutcase, and all that good stuff. A mention about Tri Bars - You can have Tri Bars on your bicycle - BUT, you must NOT use them if you are in a pack or paceline! Normally, in a USCF race, you would not be allowed to have them on your bicycle - but I know many of us like them on our bicycles and use them for training. This isn't the World Championships - we do these Events for fun, fitness and practice - but please do NOT use your Tri Bars in a pack/paceline situation. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY! Rain does not cancel! Saturday, April 3rd - The Table Mountain Time Trial - 9:00AM - This is Event #12 in the Butte Hill Climb Time Trial Series! This is a Category 1 climb of about 5.4 miles and about 1,650 feet of climbing(rough estimates). Registration will open at 8:30am, with the first rider going off at 9:01am....and we will go in 1-minute intervals. Everyone is welcome to come on out and give it a shot! The Start location for this event is in Oroville on Cherokee Road(see map) where it crosses the channel......just past La Colina Drive......but before you get to Thompson Flat Cemetary Road. You will be climbing Table Mountain the same way as Chico Velo's Wildflower Century. The Finish is at the top - usually where Durl has his water station for the Wildflower. A rough approximation of the Table Mountain Time Trial route can be found on Bikely.com here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Table-Mountain-TT Rain does not cancel! (Event #12 in the 2010 Butte Hill Climb Time Trial Series) Stage #3 in the Devil's Kick Omnium
Sunday, April 4th - The Table Mountain Road Race - 9:00AM - 1 Lap - This particular course was first used by the Chico Velo Cycling Club as a USCF RR course in 1984 during the Chico Omnium(which also included the 7-Mile Lane Time Trial and the Chico Downtown Criterium that year). Most groups did 2 laps of this course, but the Cat.1/2 guys did 3 or 4. However, I wouldn't do that to ya - we're only going to do 1 lap in this race - for a total of approximately 25 miles and approximately 2,100 feet of total climbing. (I wanted to make it just 1 lap too for those who ride out to the course and back to Chico - wouldn't wanna kill ya or anything!!) The course preview is located on Bikely.com here - and you can see the Course Profile by clicking on "Show" in the top left-hand corner........then clicking on "Elevation Profile": http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Old-Table-Mountain-Road-Race-Course . Like the Messilla Valley Circuit Race, this will have a Category "A" and a Category "B". The Start/Finish Line is located on Table Mountain Boulevard right by Table Mountain Ranch Road(see Bikely Map - this was the Start/Finish Line for the 1984 race as well - I'll be out there early, so look for the registration table). Each Category will do just 1 lap = 25 miles. Registration will open at 8:30AM with Category A going off at 9:00AM........and Category B going at 9:02AM. Women's Category will be scored separately. Parking is available on the unfinished freeway overpass at the Start/Finish Line.
****Now, a word of warning - This course goes in a clockwise direction - meaning that you will be climbing up to Cherokee from Hwy. 70. Although the hill does not seem quite as difficult as from the other side(the Wildflower Century side), the descent off Table Mountain will be quite tricky. Make certain that your bicycle is in good working order and that you are comfortable on technical descents. The Road Race course goes through amazingly diverse sections and is quite scenic - but please look out for one another and for yourselves, especially on the descent and on the Highway. All USCF rules apply, as usual - you know, don't do stupid stuff, wear a helmet, obey the centerline, etc. Route Arrows will mark the course as well. Bottle hand ups and Feed Zones will be solely dependent upon volunteers - Feed Zone is pretty much anywhere on the course. Sag vehicles will be solely dependent upon volunteers as well. I will be sweeping the course at the end as well - so if I don't see you back at the Finish, I'm coming to get you! (Part of the 2010 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series!) Final Stage in the Devil's Kick Omnium
Sunday, April 4th - The "Kids ONLY" Humboldt Road Race - 3:00PM - For the kids under the Age of 16 who have been showing up to the Chico Airport Criteriums - now's your chance to experience a ROAD RACE!! Well.....at least a little one!! Registration will open at the bottom of the hill (near the intersection of Humboldt Road & Stilson Canyon Road) at 2:40pm. The RACE will start at 3:00pm. This one is about 3.4 miles long and climbs approximately 750 feet - so bring your climbing legs!! MENTORS are STRONGLY encouraged to attend - to keep an eye on our riders, help them out and encourage them up the hill. I will also be there with the SAG Vehicle, if needed. For a map of the "Kids Only" course, please visit: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Humboldt-Road-Race-AM-Racing . HELMETS ARE MANDATORY! Rain cancels! (Part of the 2010 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series!....well, for the Junior Category!!)
THE 2010 DEVIL'S KICK OMNIUM INFORMATION:
Thur., April 1st - River Road 10-Mile Time Trial - 6:00pm - Stage #1 in the Devil's Kick Omnium
Fri., April 2nd - Friday Night Chico Airport Criterium - 6:00pm(for As & Bs) & 7:00pm(for Kids Only racing) - Stage #2 in the Devil's Kick Omnium

Sun., April 4th - Humboldt Road Race - KIDS ONLY - 3:00pm Final Stage in the Devil's Kick Omnium(for the Junior Category only)
How does it work??? Okay, in this scenario, an Omnium is just a stage race using points rather than time - and you do not have to complete one stage in order to do the next stage. You garner points for each stage depending upon how you did in the stage.......and, again, in this particular case.........the MOST points wins(many Omniums reverse this and have the least amount of points winning). There WILL be a Category "A" and Category "B" - you must tell me at the start of your first stage which Category you are entering.......and no downgrades during the Omnium once you're in. Categories may be combined, changed or eliminated if not enough folks come out. Most USCF rules will apply to ALL stages - including WEAR YOUR HELMET, don't ride too much like a lunatic, and so on and so forth. Please read the section carefully at the bottom of this e-mail for all the rules pertaining to the Omnium. ANY rider participating in ALL 4 Stages receives an additional 10 points. The River Road 10-Mile Time Trial - aero equipment WILL be allowed! And remember - the only reasons we're doing this Omnium is for fun and fitness......and maybe a little competitiveness too, but nothing over-the-top please! Ride safe, have fun, try something new and challenge yourself. Anyone doing any of the stages is automatically entered in the Omnium..........but consistency in the events will be key to winning the Overall. You can do 1, 2, 3 or all 4 stages - just whatever you feel up to doing!! So, come on out and give it a shot!! Medals will be given to the winners of each category:
Category A Men
Category B Men
Women's Category(racing Bs)
Junior Category
Women's Masters 50+ Category
Men's Masters 50+ Category(racing Bs)

As always, the Director reserves the right to DQ anyone deemed cheating, unsafe or unsportsmanlike(no worries - just be cool like always and all will be good!!).
Tie-Breaker - If, by chance, it comes down to a TIE after the last stage of the Omnium, the highest placed finisher(of the tied competitors) in the River Road 10-Mile Time Trial will be declared the Overall Winner of the Devil's Kick Omnium.
