Nutcracker Omnium starts tomorrow!!!

Yep, it is that time of year again - time for the Nutcracker Omnium! The dates are from Sept. 1st through Sept. 6th, 2009. This was an event started a few years back by Tim Creswell, Mike Trowbridge and Rand Miller. It took a short break, but we brought it back again a couple years back......and it was a blast!! The riders really had a good time with this one. This year, it is back again - bigger and better than ever, with a couple of small changes.

The 5th Annual Nutcracker Omnium will consist of 5 Stages over 6 days this year for Categories "A", "B" and the Women's Category. In reality, there are a total of 6 stages - but only 5 count for Category "A" and 5 count for Category "B" and the Women's Category. There will also be a Men's Masters 45+ Category within the "B" Category. :

Tuesday, Sept. 1st - Chico Airport Criterium - 6:00PM - "Nutcracker" Omnium (Part of the 2009 Chico Airport Criterium Series - TRIPLE POINT EVENT for the "A" Category) - For Category "A" & "B"

Wednesday, Sept. 2nd - Fast 50 - 6:00PM - Nutcracker Omnium (Counts for the "A" Category ONLY)

Thursday, Sept. 3rd - River Road 10-Mile TT - 6:00PM - Nutcracker Omnium (Part of the 2009 Chico 10-Mile Time Trial Series - DOUBLE POINT EVENT for the Series) - For Category "A" & "B"

Friday, Sept. 4th - Chico Airport Criterium - 6:00PM - Nutcracker Omnium (Counts for the "B" & Women's Category ONLY) (Part of the 2009 Chico Airport Criterium Series - TRIPLE POINT EVENT FOR THE "B" & Women's Categories) - For Category "B".

Saturday, Sept. 5th - Messilla Valley Circuit Race - 9:00AM - Nutcracker Omnium (Part of the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series - DOUBLE POINT EVENT for the Series) - For Category "A" & "B"

Sunday, Sept. 6th - Cohasset UPHILL Time Trial - 9:00AM - Final Stage of Nutcracker Omnium (1st Race in the 2009 Chico Hill Climb Time Trial Series) - For Category "A" & "B"

How does it work??? Okay, in this scenario, an Omnium is just a stage race using points rather than time. You garner points for each stage depending upon how you did in the stage.......and, again, in this case.........the MOST points wins(many Omniums reverse this and have the least amount of points winning). There WILL be a Category "A", Category "B" and Women's Category - you must tell me at the start of the Tuesday Night Airport Criterium which Category you are entering.......and no downgrades during the Omnium once you're in. Categories may be combined, changed or eliminated if not enough folks come out. Most United States Cycling Federation rules will apply to ALL stages - including WEAR YOUR HELMET, don't ride too much like a nutcase, and so on and so forth. Please read the rules carefully at the bottom of this e-mail for all the rules pertaining to the Nutcracker Omnium. The River Road Time Trial - aero equipment WILL NOT be allowed for the Omnium! And remember - the only reasons we're doing this Omnium is for fun and fitness......and maybe a little competitiveness too, but nothing over-the-top please! Ride safe, have fun, try something new and challenge yourself. Anyone doing any of the stages is automatically entered in the Omnium..........but consistency in the events will be key. The Nutcracker Omnium Trophy will be awarded to the winner in each Category of the Omnium - but the Actual "Nutcracker" will go to the winner of the Mens "A" Division(trophy currently held by Kevin Speacht - last year's winner!).

So.....with that said, here are the Point Breakdowns for each of the Stages of the upcoming Nutcracker Omnium - and carefully read the rules listed below!:

3 R.A.C.E. Events this weekend!!

Hi Everyone!! Just a reminder that we are having 3 R.A.C.E. events this weekend - but NO Criteriums on Friday night or Sunday night(the Chico Air Show will be going on at the airport this weekend!). Been getting lots of questions about Saturday's BLOOM Circuit Race - There is parking at the Vista Lookout point at Hwy. 70......also the location of the Start/Finish Line. This is quite the course - very beautiful........but does have 4600 feet of climbing in 25.5 miles! Even if ya want to do just 1 lap, that's okay too!!

Saturday, August 29th - The BLOOM Circuit Race - 9:00AM - A NEW Circuit Race in the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series!! This event is named after our very own Mark Bloom - Mark told me about this Circuit and thought it might make a good R.A.C.E. Event - and man, he wasn't kidding!! This course has a little bit of everything - and it is quite beautiful too!! This Circuit Race will be 5 laps of a 5.1 mile long circuit off of Hwy. 70........for a total of 25.5 miles. However, the total elevation gain for this event will be approximately 4,600 feet.......that's more than double the Table Mountain Road Race climbing in the same distance. So......bring your climbing legs and climbing gears! There is a parking area at the Vista sight right on the course on Hwy. 70 - right at the Intersection with Lunt Road. Registration will open in the Vista Area at 8:30am.........with the Category "A" event starting at 9:00AM.........and the Category "B" event starting at 9:02AM. Women's Category will be scored separately. The race starts with a descent off of Hwy. 70, down Lunt Road - over to Nelson Bar Road - to Concow Road - and back to Hwy. 70. Each lap includes 920 feet of total climbing - with some good pitches in there for good measure! This is also a HUGE POINT Event for the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series, with 35 points going to the winner, 30 to 2nd, 28 to 3rd and so on and so forth. I will be there early, and will also bring a supply of water bottles for hand-ups during the race. For a map of this course, please visit: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bloom-Circuit-Race (HUGE Point Event for the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series)

Saturday, August 29th - The "Kids ONLY" Humboldt Road Race - 1:00PM - From the bottom of the climb up to the main Power Lines (it's about half-way up Humboldt = 2 miles up, 400 feet of total climbing!) - For the kids under the Age of 16 who have been showing up to the Chico Airport Criteriums - now's your chance to experience a ROAD RACE!! Well.....at least a little one!! Registration will open at the bottom of the hill (near the intersection of Humboldt Road & Stilson Canyon Road) at 12:40pm. The RACE will start at 1:00pm. This one is 2 miles long and climbs approximately 400 feet - so bring your climbing legs!! I will have water at the Start & Finish - and probably watermelon at the top too. We're going just up to the Power Lines - not all the way up to the top. MENTORS are STRONGLY encouraged to attend - to keep an eye on our riders, help them out and encourage them up the hill. I will also be there with the SAG Vehicle, if needed. ***One Note - If enough older kids show, we may do a race up to the top of Humboldt too, depending upon help & logistics. For a map of the "Kids Only" course, please visit: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/The-Humboldt-Kids-Road-Race . HELMETS ARE MANDATORY! Rain cancels!

Sunday, August 30th - Butte City Road Race (Bringing back the old classic!!!) - 9:00AM - A 36-Mile Flat Road Race!! - The Chico Velo Cycling Club did this as a United States Cycling Federation Road Race back in.....what.....1982 or 1983. In fact, yours truly actually won the Junior race, believe it or not. Anyway, we decided to bring it back again, just to give it a test! This course is approximately 36 miles in length and includes a whopping 189 feet of total climbing! We'll be doing 1-lap only. We will have a Category "A" and a Category "B" group - Women's Category will be scored separately. The Start/Finish of this one is at the Ord Bend Park(the last Rest Stop of this year's Wildflower Century). Registration will open at 8:30am - with the Category "A" race going off at 9:00AM - the Category "B" race going off at 9:03am. The course follows a Clockwise direction - east on Ord Ferry Road, south on 7-Mile Lane, west on Hwy. 162, north on Hwy. 45.....then finishing up back on Ord Ferry Road at the Ord Bend Park. Route Arrows will mark the course - and there are bathrooms and plenty of parking at Ord Bend Park! I will be following the groups in a SAG Vehicle in case you have a problem out there - but will have to get back to the Finish Area at some point to score the event. A map of this course can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/The-Really-Old-Butte-City-RR-Course Hope you can come out to give this one a shot!! DOG DAYS OMNIUM INFORMATION:

Hi Everyone! The 2nd Annual "Dog Days" Omnium bicycling event is this week, in honor of the Dog Days of Summer:

Tues., Aug. 18th - Chico Airport Criterium - 1st Race "Dog Days" Omnium (Part of the 2009 Chico Airport Criterium Series - this is also a DOUBLE POINT EVENT!)

Thurs., Aug. 20th - River Road 10-Mile TT - 2nd Race Dog Days Omnium (Part of the 2009 Chico 10-Mile Time Trial Series)

Sat., Aug. 22nd - Cohasset DOWNHILL TT - 3rd Race Dog Days Omnium (Part of the 2009 Chico Downhill Time Trial Series)

Sun., Aug. 23rd - Table Mountain Road Race(1 lap) - Final Race Dog Days Omnium (Part of the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series)

Essentially, this will be run similar to the Nutcracker Omnium taking place in September, but with a couple of different stages. Again, in this scenario, an Omnium is just a stage race using points rather than time. You garner points for each stage depending upon how you did in the stage.......and, again, in this case.........the MOST points wins(many Omniums reverse this and have the least amount of points winning). There WILL be a Category "A" and Category "B", and a Women's Category which is scored separately - you must tell me at the start which Category you are entering.......and no downgrades during the Omnium once you're in. Most USCF rules will apply to ALL stages - including WEAR YOUR HELMET, don't ride like a silly person, and so on and so forth. The Time Trials - In the Dog Days Omnium, aero equipment WILL be allowed(it is NOT allowed in the Nutcracker Omnium River Road Time Trial). And remember - the only reasons we're doing this Omnium is for fun and fitness......and maybe a little competitiveness too, but nothing over-the-top please! Ride safe, have fun, try something new and challenge yourself. Dog Days Omnium Champion Trophies will be awarded to the Winners of each Category - we may also have a Masters Category for Men & Women if the budget allows for it.

So.....with that said, here are the Point Breakdowns for each of the Stages of the upcoming Dog Days Omnium - and details/descriptions of each stage will be announced shortly:

Tuesday, August 18th - Chico Airport Criterium:
1st = 25 points (NOT to be added to the season-long point standings in the Criterium Series....those points are separate from the Omnium. Prime Points NOT counted in the Overall Omnium Results.)
2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points
Everyone else = 1 point

Thursday, August 20th - River Road 10-Mile Time Trial:
1st = 25 points
2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points
Everyone else = 1 point

Saturday, August 22nd - Cohasset DOWNHILL Time Trial:
1st = 25 points
2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points
Everyone else = 1 point

Sunday, August 23rd - Table Mountain Road Race(1 Lap):
1st = 25 points
2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points
Everyone else = 1 point

And Finally - ANY rider participating in ALL 4 Stages receives an additional 25 points.
Do you have to do all the stages in order to compete in the Omnium?? No - you can even do just one event and your points will still be calculated and counted in the overall.
Tie-Breaker - If, by chance, it comes down to a TIE after the last stage of the Omnium, the highest placed finisher(of the tied competitors) in the Cohasset DOWNHILL Time Trial will be declared the Overall Winner.

R.A.C.E. Events for Aug. 24th - Aug. 30th.................

A pretty light R.A.C.E. week this next week - the Chico Air Show will be going on Friday, Saturday & Sunday at the airport. No Friday night Criterium and no Sunday night Criterium. However, 2 NEW Events will be making an appearance next weekend - the very hilly BLOOM Circuit Race on Saturday morning, and the very flat Butte City Road Race on Sunday morning! And remember - the following week is the Nutcracker Omnium!!

Tuesday, Aug. 25th - Chico Airport Criterium - 6:00PM & 7:00PM (Part of the 2009 Chico Airport Criterium Series)

Wednesday, August 26th - Fast 50 - 6:00PM

Thursday, Aug. 27th - Meridian Road 10-Mile Time Trial - 6:00PM (Part of the 2009 Chico 10-Mile Time Trial Series)

Friday, Aug. 28th - No events planned tonight - the Air Show is going on at the Chico Airport.

Saturday, Aug. 29th - The BLOOM Circuit Race - 9:00AM (HUGE Point Event for the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series)
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bloom-Circuit-Race

Saturday, Aug. 29th - The "Kids Only" Humboldt Road Race - 1:00PM

Sunday, Aug. 30th - The Butte City Road Race - 9:00AM (Point Event for the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series)
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/The-Really-Old-Butte-City-RR-Course

Tuesday, August 25th - Tuesday Night Airport Criterium - 6:00PM (As & Bs) & 7:00PM (Cs) - Registration normally opens at 5:45pm on Convair avenue at the Airport - with the event starting promptly at 6:00pm. For the time being, we'll be using our standard Tuesday Night course starting/finishing at Convair Avenue - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Chico-Airport-Tuesday-Night-Crit-Course . Category "A" riders will go for 50 Minutes PLUS 3 laps, while Category "B" riders will go for 45 Minutes PLUS 3 laps - Women's Category picked separately. Lots of Point Primes offered in this one!! Must sign in and wear a helmet in order to compete. RAIN OR WET PAVEMENT WILL CANCEL THIS EVENT. (Part of the 2009 Chico Airport Criterium Series!)

**** One Note About This Tuesday Night's Airport Criterium - August 25th - 7:00PM - will also have a Category "C" race going off at 7:00PM. The "C" race will be 20 minutes + 3 laps. If you are intimidated by the Criterium and/or the speeds out there, this is the Category to get a feel for what's going on without the crazy speeds. No other Category races will be on the course - just Category "C" - so you can get used to the course, etc. The event MAY be mentored as well, depending upon whether ANY Category "A" or highly-ranked Category "B" riders(basically, any top 10 riders in the Current Standings in the "B" Category) are available to mentor. A mentor basically sits in with your group during the race, giving you basic pointers and helpful advice to keep you safe, skilled and sound during the event - and for future events. Mentors must meet with me prior to the event - so, if you would like to volunteer to be a Criterium Mentor, see me at the race on Tuesday Night or e-mail me prior to the Event - lorrod7@comcast.net . Also - If anyone would like to donate Prime Prizes for any of the events, please bring them out to the Criterium or e-mail me.

Wednesday, August 26th - FAST 50 - 6:00PM - The long-running independent "Fast 50" Wednesday night rides! The starting spot for this ride is in the parking lot of Rosedale Elementary School located at 100 Oak Street here in Chico. The ride leaves promptly at 6:00pm from the parking lot area. Many different levels of cyclists out there, so hook up with someone and enjoy the ride! A map of the course can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Fast-50255824 Rain does not cancel!

Thursday, August 27th - Meridian Road 10-Mile Time Trial - 6:00PM - A newer course to try out in the 10-Mile Time Trial Series. We'll be heading to Meridian Road, just north of Chico for this one. This is a straight 5-mile out, 5-mile back in Time Trial - the course has approximately 130 feet of total climbing....primarily on the way out. Registration will open at 5:40pm with the first rider going off at 6:01pm. We will be going in 1-Minute Intervals. You must sign in at the start! The Start/Finish Line is just past the left sweeper turn on Meridian Road......the turn-around is before you get to Lassen Road(this is the same section of Meridian used on the Paskenta Century). Riders will travel north for 5 miles, then back south for 5 miles. An approximate map of this course can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Meridian-Road-10-Mile-Time-Trial Look for me at the Starting location with the RACEmobile(the greenish Mitsubishi POS car) and the clipboard. (Part of the 2009 Chico 10-Mile Time Trial Series!)

2009 CHICO ROAD R.A.C.E. SERIES INFORMATION:

After the great turn-out at last year's various Chico Road Races, we're going to be doing them again for 2009......but this time, they will ALSO be in a "Series" format. For those curious, the approximate definition of "Bicycle Road Races" can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_bicycle_racing

This Series will go from Saturday, May 30th through mid-September 2009......just before the Henleyville Road Race on September 19th, 2009! Most of these races will be starting at either 8:00AM or 9:00AM on the weekends - but some could be as early as 7:00AM.......and others starting as late as 10:00AM(highly unlikely).

Why have this event???

Looking at cycle racing from an international view, "road racing" is one of the most prestigious aspects of bicycle racing. The greatest racing champions in the hisotry of our great sport - Eddy Merckx, Lance Armstrong, Bernard Hinault, Fausto Coppi, Greg LeMond, Miguel Indurain, Gino Bartali - the list goes on and on and on. These riders were great "road racing" champions. The road race itself requires great stamina, strength, speed, skill and sense to win - or to place. To win a road race - or place highly in a road race consistently - is the epitome of a great cycle racing champion. This contest will track the most consistent riders in the area for road racing. The winner of this event will have a great opportunity for bragging rights - plus, they'll win the Series Championship Trophy!!

How does it work???

Okay, here are a few notes for 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series:

1. We will be using a variety of courses for this Series - including some flat courses, very hilly courses, somewhat hilly courses, circuit race courses(no Crits) and so forth. The idea is to get a variety of course profiles going for the Series to test the riders a bit. Next year - 2010 - this Series will also be starting much earlier in the year in order to get a feel for different weather conditions as well.

2. ALL riders must sign in this year at the start of EACH event - There will be a small table at the Start/Finish location - just sign in at the table and you are good to go! Sign-ins normally start 30 minutes before the event takes place and closes about 1-2 minutes before the event starts. Rain or wet weather will normally not cancel the events. However, last year we had some tremendous smoke from the Humboldt Fire in this area......which, in turn, may cancel some of the Road Races due to hazardous air quality.

3. There will normally be 2 Categories racing at the Road Races - the Category "A" Event and the Category "B" Event. However, EACH Series Category will be picked separately(Women's, Women's Masters, Men's Masters, Juniors, etc.). Category "A" races will normally start first, with the Category "B" races starting a couple of minutes later. If there are enough racers to have a separate category start after the "B" event, we will make that happen as well.

4. Helmets are MANDATORY! So, please....please.....wear your helmet! Please!!

5. All are welcome - you don't have to do the Series - just come on out and give this Road Race training/riding a shot! They're a GREAT workout!!!

6. Points are used to calculate the Overall Standings in the Series. The point breakdown is as follows: 25-20-18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2-1-1-1, with an additional 4 points being given to each participant at each event. So, 25 points goes to the winner, 20 points goes to 2nd place, 18 points goes to 3rd place and so on.........in addition to 4 more points just for doing the event. The rider with the MOST points at the end of the Series wins the Overall Title - and the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series Championship Trophy, plus whatever goodies we can give you. If one race proves particularly harsh.........ex. - the Jonesville Road Race on June 7th..............the point breakdown MAY be increased(35 to the winner, 30 to 2nd and so forth). IN ADDITION - It is quite possible that some of the Mini-Road-Races held during the week MAY be counted towards the Overall Title, but with fewer points (think.......5 to the winner, 4 to 2nd, 3 to 3rd and so on.....with NO point bonuses for competing).

7. Although the races are advertised as having 2 Categories out on the course - Category A and Category B - the Series itself has more Trophy Categories, including:

Category "A" Men
Women's Category
Category "B" Men
And any others if there are enough riders!

These are the Categories which all qualify for a Series Championship Trophy - as of NOW. We will ADD Categories if enough riders show up out there - so tell your friends!! If nobody - or very few folks are in one category - we may eliminate it and add an additional category where the numbers allow it. As usual, sandbaggers are strongly discouraged ( A Sandbagger would be a Category "A" rider entering a Category "B" event - this would have to be completely obvious to the Race Director).

In addition, trophies will normally be given out at EACH event for the winners in various categories............depending upon the budget of the Race Director.

8. Although donations to put on these events are always very appreciated and accepted, this Series is FREE - so come on out and take advantage of some, or all, of these Road R.A.C.E.s in 2009!

9. The Race Director reserves the right to DQ any rider for unsafe riding or unsportsmanlike conduct at ANY time. Also, PLEASE - try not to use colorful language out there - especially with the little kids around watching the race at the finish line and so forth. ANY rider breaking these rules can be subject to Disqualification from - not only the race - but from the entire Series. So, please - just do what ya always do and just be cool!!!!

10. Finally, remember - these Road Race events are essentially for practice and exercise - we have fun out there and get a great little workout in, and we get to work on some quality cycling skills. But, overall, they're no big whoop....no World Championship/Olympic medals or million dollar contracts on the line. So, with that in mind, just treat 'em as such - a good training event to try some new things, gain some good fitness.....and maybe even get into a "real" sanctioned Road Race at some point in time. Or not. Just have fun with it!! We'll have trophies and hopefully some prizes for the Series winners - and definitely loads of fun....and pain and suffering. ;) But remember - it's all in good fun!

Hope to see you out there!!

2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points
Everyone else = 1 point

Thursday, August 20th - River Road 10-Mile Time Trial:
1st = 25 points
2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points
Everyone else = 1 point

Saturday, August 22nd - Cohasset DOWNHILL Time Trial:
1st = 25 points
2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points
Everyone else = 1 point

Sunday, August 23rd - Table Mountain Road Race(1 Lap):
1st = 25 points
2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points

2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points
Everyone else = 1 point

Thursday, August 20th - River Road 10-Mile Time Trial:
1st = 25 points
2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points
Everyone else = 1 point

Saturday, August 22nd - Cohasset DOWNHILL Time Trial:
1st = 25 points
2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points
Everyone else = 1 point

Sunday, August 23rd - Table Mountain Road Race(1 Lap):
1st = 25 points
2nd = 20 points
3rd = 18 points
4th = 16 points
5th = 14 points
6th = 12 points
7th = 10 points
8th = 8 points
9th = 6 points
10th = 4 points
11th = 2 points

INFORMATION REGARDING THE 2009 CHICO 10-MILE TIME TRIAL SERIES:

1. There will be more than 1 course used for this year's 10-Mile Time Trial Series. The courses will be scattered around the Chico area - Chico River Road, River Road, Aguas Frias Road, 7-Mile Lane, Lassen Road, Meridian Road and others to be announced as the weeks go on. The idea is to get a feel for the various 10-Mile TT routes around the area.....and just to challenge yourself a bit! Many of these Time Trials will be on Thursday evenings at 6:00PM - however, there may be a few that are thrown in on a different weeknight - or on the weekend. ALL of these Time Trials will be flat to fairly flat. Most of the Thursday Night 10-Mile Time Trials WILL count towards the Series Overall Standings. (There will be a 25-Mile TT Series, as well as a 6-Mile TT Series, announced soon).

2. ALL riders must sign in this year - Like all the events so far this year, you just need to sign in at the start in order to enter the event. And, as usual in these Time Trials, we will be going in 1-minute Intervals. Again, donations are always accepted and appreciated - but all of the events are FREE!

3. Rain and Wind will not cancel the Time Trials, unless specified by the Race Director. However, crudy air conditions(ex. - last year's Humboldt Fire) will cancel them.

4. Helmets are MANDATORY! So, please....please.....wear your helmet! Please!! AND - Yes, Aero Equipment is allowed!! So.....wear an aero helmet!! Or just a regular one!!

5. All are welcome - you don't have to do the Series - just come on out and give one or two of these events a shot! It's amazing what kind of workout you can get in during a 20 to 45 minute 10-Mile Time Trial! And it's just you against the clock!!

6. Points are used to calculate the Overall Standings in this particular Series(makes it easier for the promoter - sorry!). The point breakdown is as follows: 10-8-6-4-2-1-1-1-1, with an additional 2 points being given to each participant who completes each event. So, 10 points goes to the winner, 8 points goes to 2nd place, 6 points goes to 3rd place and so on.........everyone who finishes 6th or beyond gets 1-point for completing the event. The rider with the MOST points at the end of the Series wins the Overall Title - and the Chico 10-MIle Time Trial Series Championship Trophy, plus whatever goodies we can give you. Points will be broken down by Category. Once you enter and finish an event, you are entered in the Series.

7. The following Categories are eligible for a Series Championship Trophy:

Merckxian Category - NO aero equipment!
Category "A" Men
Women's Category
Women's Masters 45+ Category
Category "B" Men
Men's Masters 45+ Category
Men's Masters 55+ Category
Junior Men
(If the numbers allow it, more Categories will be added!) (Can not enter more than 2 Categories per event).

These are the Categories which all qualify for a Series Championship Trophy. If nobody - or very few folks are in one category - we may eliminate it and add an additional category where the numbers allow it. As usual, sandbaggers are strongly discouraged ( A Sandbagger would be a Category "A" rider entering a Category "B" event). And, as usual, the Series Organizer reserves the right to re-classify you at any time(within reason and with plenty of notice though.....this isn't the UCI!!!)

8. Finally, remember - these Time Trial events are essentially for practice and exercise - we have fun out there and get a great little workout in, and we get to work on some quality cycling. But, overall, they're no big whoop....no World Championship/Olympic medals or million dollar contracts on the line. So, with that in mind, just treat 'em as such - a good training event to try some new things, gain some good fitness.....and maybe even get into a "real" sanctioned race at some point in time. Or not. Just have fun with it!! We'll have trophies and hopefully some prizes for the Series winners - and definitely loads of fun....and pain and suffering. ;) But remember - it's all in good fun!
