R.A.C.E. events this week..............

Hi Everyone!! First off, I would like to thank ALL of you for helping to support the Tour de Ed and the Chico Cyclists Care Fund!! The event yesterday was GREAT - we had about 336 riders and raised $8,500 for this great cause. You never know when one of us may need it, so thank you all for coming out to support the event, donating, and being there - it was fantastic to see you all!! And what a GREAT day - the weather was fantastic!! Thank you all!!

Okay, so there are a few little competitive cycling events going on this week around Chico, if you are at all interested:

Tuesday, March 10th - Tuesday Night Chico Airport Criterium Series - Registration normally starts at 5:40pm on Convair avenue at the Airport - with the event starting at 6:00pm. For the time being, we'll be using our standard Tuesday Night course starting/finishing at Convair Avenue - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Chico-Airport-Tuesday-Night-Crit-Course . Must sign in and wear a helmet in order to compete!!

Wednesday, March 11th - FAST 50 - The official start of the long-running "Fast 50" Wednesday night rides will be starting up on March 11th! The starting spot for this ride is in the parking lot of Rosedale Elementary School located at 100 Oak Street here in Chico. The ride leaves promptly at 6:00pm from the parking lot area. Many different levels of cyclists out there, so hook up with someone and enjoy the ride! A map of the course can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Fast-50255824

Thursday, March 12th - River Road 10-Mile Time Trial - The 1st one of the 2009 season! Registration opens at 5:40pm, with the first rider going off at 6:01pm. We will go in 1-minute intervals for this 5-miles out, 5-miles back, all-flat Time Trial. This classic Chico Time Trial course has been used for the last 29+ years. Come on out after work and give this one a shot! An extremely rough draft of this course can be found here - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/River-Road-10-Mile-TT-Course (yes, the course is really 10 miles, not 9.9). And if you look at the Elevation Profile......it might tell you why coming back always seems a bit tougher than going out!

Friday the 13th, March 13th - Cohasset Narrows Mini-Road Race - Registration will open at 5:45pm on Ryan Avenue on the north end of the airport - just to the west of the Fifth Sun parking lot(look for me on Ryan Avenue with the clipboard). Ride leaves at 6:00pm and will climb to just past the "Road Narrows" & "Share The Road" sign at the top of the "good" road - just go your own pace. The ride itself is only about 7 miles in length, but includes about 1,500 feet of climbing. I will be there with the sag vehicle if you run into a problem - and will be at the finish line to score you - will have water too. This is a great little after-work ride to stretch the legs a bit for the weekend! An approximate map of the course can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Friday-Night-Cohasset-Uphill-Race

Saturday, March 14th - Pentz Road Time Trial - Event #5 in the Butte Hill Climb Time Trial Series is the Pentz Road Time Trial. Registration will open at 8:15am at Spring Valley School - and the finish is where Pentz Road meets Malibu Drive in Paradise. This is considered a Category 2 climb in the Series - approximately 5.8 miles in length and climbs about 1,150 feet. Map of the course can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Pentz-Road-TT

Sunday, March 15th - 2 to choose from - Italian Triple if you want more climbing: Meet at the One Mile Recreation Area at 7:00AM for this Chico Velo classic - The Italian Triple! Up Cohasset to the store, then up Honey Run and down Neal Road, and finally up Forest Ranch to the store! This is a non-supported ride, so come prepared! A slighly modified map of this route can be found at the following link(about 92 miles and includes about 6,200 feet of climbing): http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/The-Modified-Italian-Triple-Route
OR
The Aguas Frias Road Race - Registration will open at 8:30am, and the Race will start at 9:00AM, for this 33 mile FLAT route - south down Aguas Frias Road, west on Hwy. 162, north on 7-Mile Lane, east on Ord Ferry Road, with the finish back on Aguas Frias. Start/Finish line is located just south of Dayton 4-corners - across the street from the Stop Ahead Sign on Aguas Frias(where we also Start/Finish the Aguas Frias Time Trials). I'll be in the sag vehicle behind you, if you need anything - and will be at the finish to score you. Beautiful out there this time of year! A map of this course can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Aguas-Frias-RR-Course Total climbing = 128 feet!! Whoohoo!!
