Yeah, that's about as far over as he got.......

Okay, the guy from the San Jose Bicycle Club doing the extreme cornering lean in the pic is a way cool Dude named Chris Wire. And let me say this - if you told me that he actually pulled this corner off without crashing, I would believe you.

Back in the day, Chris and I raced Juniors here in northern California. He was a tad older than me - and WAY faster! But the two things that really impressed me about Chris was his ability to corner, and attacking at a moment's notice.

I raced with him one year at the Vallejo Criterium in the Junior category - I saw him pull a right-hand turn literally out of his ass.....I mean, to this day, I still don't know how he did it, stayed upright and didn't roll a tubular in the process. It was art in motion. And then, watching him attack at another criterium we were both racing, I couldn't believe how he disguised it - he was there on the side of the pack, I was on his wheel, and before I even knew what was up......he was gone! I had less than a split-split-split-second to decide if I should jump on to his wheel or not. By the time I decided, it was already too late......he was away, winning a prime.

And obviously, good things were to come in his riding - he eventually hooked up with the Avocet Racing Team back then and was quite good. And here is he now, STILL quite good - just garnering a 2nd and a 13th at this race on Sunday.

Way to go Chris - we'll be lookin' for ya at future races!

I wonder if he pulled that one off.........
