Oh my God.......April Fools ain't over yet......
So, I come home from work tonight and decided to log on to the Net and check e-mail. I usually get about 500 to 1,000 e-mails a day........about 98% of them have something to do with cycling. Yeah, I know - I'm weird. But I like to keep up-to-date on that cycling junk!
Anyway, I like to scan the Inbox and read the most important e-mails first - which are always the ones from family and friends. Today, the first "friend" e-mail I saw was from the longest continuous member of the Chico Velo Cycling Club - and that would be Charlie(holding the clipboard in the pic above - at the 2005 Jack & Jill Time Trial). And here is the e-mail I received from him, titled Drastic Action Needed:
Hi Rodney:
This depressing and endless rain has made me reconsider the sport of cycling here in Chico, after 35 years of riding. I have now decided to switch to another sport (undecided as yet) and hence will put all three of my road bikes up for sale:
1) 1973 Bob Jackson/Olympus frame, 531 tubing, some original Campy parts plus updated 2003 Campy components, deep burgundy.
2 ) 2005 Bianchi Pista single gear (53x18), sweet, sleek, silver, fast as hell.
3) 1999 Ciocc/Columbus Super Nemo tubing/old school style, Campy Chorus components, 10 cogs, some Campy Record, classic Cinelli stem and bars (Hincapie would have won Roubaix had it used them!), metallic purple color.
No reasonable offer refused.
Yours in resignation,
Charlie
Now, you had to have been here when I was reading this thing - I was distraught beyond belief. In fact, I felt a little panicked about the whole thing. How in the world could Charlie quit cycling???!!! I was sitting here saying to myself, "NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" Not after 35+ years.
OMG - it was pretty funny. Lori thought I had lost my mind.
Luckily, I found out a short time later this evening that it was just a joke - Charlie was just letting off some frustration about the crazy weather we've been having. Oh man, was I glad about that one!
So, I've been had by the best - way to get me Charlie! And to be honest, I feel relieved more than anything.
Forgot the best part - I sent multiple e-mails out to our cycling group encouraging them all to stick with this sport, despite the weather - to stay positive - that the weather will change eventually - to not get down on it - that we'll all be riding again soon in sunshine. Too hilarious.
Yes, I am a dork.
