Monday, August 1st - The Bidwell Forest Mountain Bike Short-Track Race - NEW EVENT - 6:30pm:
Last Monday night's short-track race had 25 riders come out and it was a blast!!! So, thought we would give it another go! This race will start on the north side of the 5-Mile Recreation Area - near the dirt parking lot. Registration will open at 6:15pm for the 6:30pm start. The course will run through the single-track trails in "The Forest" in Upper Bidwell Park. This is an area just north of the 5-Mile Area - in between the 5-Mile and the entry to the North Rim Trail Parking Area. The course is VERY shaded and cool - great for summer racing - and is about 1.1 miles in length per lap......and is almost all single-track. The race will start and finish near the dirt parking area on the north end of 5-Mile, will be 40 minutes PLUS 2 laps. And, again, the course is about 1.1 miles in length, very shaded, and is ALL FLAT - no hills. The Course will be marked with flour arrows. We will race the course for 40 minutes, at which point I will give you the 2 laps to go sign. GREAT for beginners and Juniors - or those just wanting to get out on your mountain bikes for a spin! Can definitely use a cyclocross bike(Scott Heather won the race the 1st week on a cyclocross bike) - or even a road bike if you wanted - but is a mountain bike race. I will bring out ice water, as usual. For an approximate map of the course, please visit the MapMyRide link at:

(yes, the course is really 10 miles, not 9.9). And if you look at the Elevation Profile......it might tell you why coming back always seems a bit tougher than going out!

Saturday, August 6th - The Cohasset-to-the-Gravel Road Race - 8:00AM:
This Road Race will start at the Chico Airport - on Ryan Avenue - very near Cohasset Road.......right near Fifth Sun. Just look for me and the R.A.C.E.mobile at the Start Area. The race will go up Cohasset Road....into the town of Cohasset......and up and up and up until we reach the gravel road. The total length of this race is about 13.5 miles from point-to-point, and includes about 3,000 feet of total climbing. The race will start as a mass-start event(neutral from the Chico Airport until the riders get on to Cohasset Road). I will be driving the SAG vehicle for a good portion of the course, and will have ice water and Clif Bars at the Start & Finish. The Dodgeland 25-Mile Time Trial is an all-flat race that starts and finishes on 7-Mile Lane, just west of Aguas Frias Road and Dayton 4-corners. We haven't held this event in quite a long time, so I figured we'd bring it back for 2011! Registration will open at 7:30am, with the 1st rider taking off at 8:01am - and we will go in 1-minute intervals per rider for this 12.5 mile out, 12.5 miles back, all-flat Time Trial. This 25-mile course starts near the intersection of 7-Mile Lane and Ord Ferry Road - just look for me and the R.A.C.E.mobile at the Start location. Aero equipment and clothing IS allowed in the Time Trial.
***NOTE: There is little parking at the Time Trial start location - a good area to park would be at Dayton 4-corners, then ride in to the Start area. A map of the Time Trial course can be found here:
