3 R.A.C.E. Events this weekend!

Hi Everyone! Looks to be a GREAT weekend of riding - Tomorrow morning is the Messilla Valley Circuit Race, Sunday morning is the Aguas Frias Road Race - and Sunday afternoon is the "Kids Only" Humboldt Road Race! Hope to see you out there!!

Saturday, August 8th - Messilla Valley Circuit Race - 9:00AM - TROPHY EVENT - The classic event is back for the month of August!!! Registration will open at 8:30AM at the top of the hill of Messilla Valley Road - just near the intersection with Pentz Road. The "A" Category will be starting their event at 9:00AM, the "B" Category going at 9:01AM, and the Category "C" race going at 9:02AM. The Category "C" race will only be 5 laps, and will not count towards the Road R.A.C.E. Series........yet! For the As and Bs - The number of laps will remain the same as last year - 10 laps for each Category. Again, sandbagging will not be allowed! (Sandbagging would be an "A" Cateogry rider racing the Category "B" race - this must be completely obvious to the Race Director). If you drive, please park at Spring Valley School, which is only 1-mile away from the Start/Finish Line - or at Butte College and ride in - parking at the Start/Finish location is strongly discouraged. The Messilla Valley Course is approximately 3.5 miles in length with about 300+ feet of climbing per lap. 10 laps = 35 miles and 3,000+ feet of climbing. I will have one or two water containers at the Start/Finish Line, but water bottle hand-ups will be SOLELY dependent upon Volunteers - so if you have a volunteer, bring 'em with you! For a map of the course, please click on this link: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Messilla-Valley-Circuit-Race Again, most United States Cycling Federation rules apply to these races - you know, WEAR YOUR HELMET, don't ride like a nutcase, and all that good stuff. A mention about Tri Bars - You can have Tri Bars on your bicycle - BUT, you must NOT use them if you are in a pack or paceline! Normally, in a USCF race, you would not be allowed to have them on your bicycle - but I know many of us like them on our bicycles and use them for training. This isn't the World Championships - we do these Circuit Races for fun, fitness and practice - but please do NOT use your Tri Bars in a pack/paceline situation. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY! Rain does not cancel! (BIG Point Event for the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series)

Sunday, August 9th - Aguas Frias Road Race(all flat) - 9:00AM - It's back!! Again!! This is a flat Road Race of approximately 33 miles in length. Registration will open at 8:30am near Dayton 4-corners - but just south of the intersection, on Aguas Frias Road (the Start/Finish Line is where we have the Start Line for the Aguas Frias 10-Mile Time Trials). Category "A" and "B" will each do 1 lap, for a total of 33 miles and approximately 128 feet of elevation gain. Category "A" will start at 9:00am, and Category "B" will start at 9:02am. Sunday, August 9th - The "Kids ONLY" Humboldt Road Race - 1:00PM - From the bottom of the climb up to the main Power Lines (it's about half-way up Humboldt = 2 miles up, 400 feet of total climbing!) - For the kids under the Age of 16 who have been showing up to the Chico Airport Criteriums - now's your chance to experience a ROAD RACE!! Well.....at least a little one!! Registration will open at the bottom of the hill (near the intersection of Humboldt Road & Stilson Canyon Road) at 12:40pm. The RACE will start at 1:00pm. This one is 2 miles long and climbs approximately 400 feet - so bring your climbing legs!! I will have water at the Start & Finish - and probably watermelon at the top too. We're going just up to the Power Lines - not all the way up to the top. MENTORS are STRONGLY encouraged to attend - to keep an eye on our riders, help them out and encourage them up the hill. I will also be there with the SAG Vehicle, if needed. ***One Note - If enough older kids show, we may do a race up to the top of Humboldt too, depending upon help & logistics. For a map of the "Kids Only" course, please visit: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/The-Humboldt-Kids-Road-Race . HELMETS ARE MANDATORY! Rain cancels!
