Tuesday, August 4th - Tuesday Night Airport Criterium - 6:00PM (As & Bs) & 7:00PM (Cs) - Registration normally opens at 5:45pm on Convair avenue at the Airport - with the event starting promptly at 6:00pm. For the time being, we'll be using our standard Tuesday Night course starting/finishing at Convair Avenue - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Chico-Airport-Tuesday-Night-Crit-Course . Category "A" riders will go for 50 Minutes PLUS 3 laps, while Category "B" riders will go for 45 Minutes PLUS 3 laps - Women's Category picked separately. Lots of Point Primes offered in this one!! Must sign in and wear a helmet in order to compete. RAIN OR WET PAVEMENT WILL CANCEL THIS EVENT. (Part of the 2009 Chico Airport Criterium Series!)

**** One Note About This Tuesday Night's Airport Criterium - August 4th - 7:00PM - will also have a Category "C" race going off at 7:00PM. The "C" race will be 25 minutes + 3 laps. If you are intimidated by the Criterium and/or the speeds out there, this is the Category to get a feel for what's going on without the crazy speeds. No other Category races will be on the course - just Category "C" - so you can get used to the course, etc. The event MAY be mentored as well, depending upon whether ANY Category "A" or highly-ranked Category "B" riders(basically, any top 10 riders in the Current Standings in the "B" Category) are available to mentor. A mentor basically sits in with your group during the race, giving you basic pointers and helpful advice to keep you safe, skilled and sound during the event - and for future events. Mentors must meet with me prior to the event - so, if you would like to volunteer to be a Criterium Mentor, see me at the race on Tuesday Night or e-mail me prior to the Event - mhtml:%7B8A03335F-1038-44F1-AB51-F598423C3329%7Dmid://00008931/!x-usc:mailto:lorrod7@comcast.net . Also - If anyone would like to donate Prime Prizes for any of the events, please bring them out to the Criterium or e-mail me.

Wednesday, August 5th - Humboldt Road Race - 6:00AM (3.4 miles and 751 feet of climbing - just an early morning leg burn!) - Beat the heat with this early morning ride up Humboldt! Registration will open at 5:45am at the bottom of Humboldt Road(right near Stilson Canyon Road), with the race starting promptly at 6:00AM. This will be a mass-start event for this short climb up Humboldt Road - starting near Stilson Canyon Road and finishing at the Stop Ahead Sign at the top of the hill. A map of this short-course Road Race can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Humboldt-Road-Race-AM-Racing (Point event for the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series)

Wednesday, August 5th - FAST 50 - 6:00PM - The long-running independent "Fast 50" Wednesday night rides! The starting spot for this ride is in the parking lot of Rosedale Elementary School located at 100 Oak Street here in Chico. The ride leaves promptly at 6:00pm from the parking lot area. Many different levels of cyclists out there, so hook up with someone and enjoy the ride! A map of the course can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Fast-50255824 Rain does not cancel!

Thursday, August 6th - River Road 10-Mile Time Trial - 6:00pm - Registration opens at 5:40pm, with the first rider going off at 6:01pm. We will go in 1-minute intervals for this 5-miles out, 5-miles back, all-flat Time Trial. This classic Chico Time Trial course has been used for the last 29+ years. Come on out after work and give this one a shot! An extremely rough draft of this course can be found here - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/River-Road-10-Mile-TT-Course (yes, the course is really 10 miles, not 9.9). And if you look at the Elevation Profile......it might tell you why coming back always seems a bit tougher than going out! (Part of the 2009 Chico 10-Mile Time Trial Series!)

FRIDAY, August 7th - FRIDAY Night 10-Lap Cruiser Airport Criterium & Kids ONLY Criterium Race(under 16 years of age) - 6:00PM (Cruisers!) & 6:30PM (Kids Under 16 Race!) - Registration normally opens at 5:45pm on Convair avenue at the Airport - with the Cruiser event starting about 6:00pm. The "Kids" race will follow - probably about 6:30pm - and, as usual, will last approximately 25 - 30 minutes. The Cruiser Race will be about 10 laps or so.......probably take 20-30 minutes, maybe longer.....or shorter....who knows! We'll be using our standard Tuesday Night course starting/finishing at Convair Avenue - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Chico-Airport-Tuesday-Night-Crit-Course . Must sign in and wear a helmet in order to compete. RAIN OR WET PAVEMENT WILL CANCEL THIS EVENT.
**CRUISERS - Cruisers, in essence, mean one of these:

It does NOT mean one of these - sorry:

Although......if there are enough of 'em, we'll do another race - but you gotta wear a helmet!! And put a brake on!!

Saturday, August 8th - Messilla Valley Circuit Race - 9:00AM - TROPHY EVENT - The classic event is back for the month of August!!! Registration will open at 8:30AM at the top of the hill of Messilla Valley Road - just near the intersection with Pentz Road. The "A" Category will be starting their event at 9:00AM, the "B" Category going at 9:01AM, and the Category "C" race going at 9:02AM. The Category "C" race will only be 5 laps, and will not count towards the Road R.A.C.E. Series........yet! For the As and Bs - The number of laps will remain the same as last year - 10 laps for each Category. Again, sandbagging will not be allowed! (Sandbagging would be an "A" Cateogry rider racing the Category "B" race - this must be completely obvious to the Race Director). If you drive, please park at Spring Valley School, which is only 1-mile away from the Start/Finish Line - or at Butte College and ride in - parking at the Start/Finish location is strongly discouraged. The Messilla Valley Course is approximately 3.5 miles in length with about 300+ feet of climbing per lap. 10 laps = 35 miles and 3,000+ feet of climbing. I will have one or two water containers at the Start/Finish Line, but water bottle hand-ups will be SOLELY dependent upon Volunteers - so if you have a volunteer, bring 'em with you! For a map of the course, please click on this link: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Messilla-Valley-Circuit-Race Again, most United States Cycling Federation rules apply to these races - you know, WEAR YOUR HELMET, don't ride like a nutcase, and all that good stuff. A mention about Tri Bars - You can have Tri Bars on your bicycle - BUT, you must NOT use them if you are in a pack or paceline! Normally, in a USCF race, you would not be allowed to have them on your bicycle - but I know many of us like them on our bicycles and use them for training. This isn't the World Championships - we do these Circuit Races for fun, fitness and practice - but please do NOT use your Tri Bars in a pack/paceline situation. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY! Rain does not cancel! (BIG Point Event for the 2009 Chico Road R.A.C.E. Series)

Sunday, August 9th - Aguas Frias Road Race(all flat) - 9:00AM - It's back!! Again!! This is a flat Road Race of approximately 33 miles in length. Registration will open at 8:30am near Dayton 4-corners - but just south of the intersection, on Aguas Frias Road (the Start/Finish Line is where we have the Start Line for the Aguas Frias 10-Mile Time Trials). Category "A" and "B" will each do 1 lap, for a total of 33 miles and approximately 128 feet of elevation gain. Category "A" will start at 9:00am, and Category "B" will start at 9:02am. For a map of this course, please visit: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Aguas-Frias-RR-Course Again, most United States Cycling Federation rules apply to these races - you know, WEAR YOUR HELMET, don't ride like a nutcase, and all that good stuff. Sunday, August 9th - The "Kids ONLY" Humboldt Road Race - 1:00PM - From the bottom of the climb up to the main Power Lines (it's about half-way up Humboldt = 2 miles up, 400 feet of total climbing!) - For the kids under the Age of 16 who have been showing up to the Chico Airport Criteriums - now's your chance to experience a ROAD RACE!! Well.....at least a little one!! Registration will open at the bottom of the hill (near the intersection of Humboldt Road & Stilson Canyon Road) at 12:40pm. The RACE will start at 1:00pm. This one is 2 miles long and climbs approximately 400 feet - so bring your climbing legs!! I will have water at the Start & Finish - and probably watermelon at the top too. We're going just up to the Power Lines - not all the way up to the top. MENTORS are STRONGLY encouraged to attend - to keep an eye on our riders, help them out and encourage them up the hill. I will also be there with the SAG Vehicle, if needed. ***One Note - If enough older kids show, we may do a race up to the top of Humboldt too, depending upon help & logistics. For a map of the "Kids Only" course, please visit: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/The-Humboldt-Kids-Road-Race . HELMETS ARE MANDATORY! Rain cancels!
