"Hey Man, you see that guy in the Senior 4s race earlier.......
......the dude on the blue Miyata - who was that guy???"
"That dude over there? Hmmm. Don't know - never seen him before."
"You see what he did out there? He pretty much just slaughtered everyone."
"Yeah, and the crazy part of it is.....the guy doesn't even ride Campagnolo! That's just nuts!!"
----Silly conversation Brad C. and I were having in the very early 1980s at the Cherry Pie Criterium concerning one Glen Winkel. Little did we know the career he was gonna have at the time.....but you could pretty much tell that he was something special. Coming from a wrestling background, his power-to-weight ratio was extraordinary(and probably still is!). He was one of those guys who was just toying with the field every race. And up he jumped - from 4s to 3s to 2s to 1s - racing the Coors Classic in only his second year of competition. Believe he rode for the Turin Cycling Team(aka Sidi Cycling Team) in that race. He now rides for these guys......but since his move to Colorado, haven't heard much about him. Doesn't matter too much though......his past results speak for themselves:
