Is there a better way???
Had to work later than usual tonight, so it was Rollers night. Fun. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy riding rollers. You definitely have to pay attention on those things and that funky goofy circular motion you call a "spin" turns out to be choppy as all get up.......and the Rollers let you know it pretty quickly. It's just about patience, relaxation and feeling the bike. In short, it's pretty fun.
But after an hour, you can get pretty bored. Sure, the whole interval thing helps, but I find that music is the thing that keeps me going the most. And I have very strange taste in music - Type O Negative(favorite group), Pantera, Prodigy, Yanni, Enya, John Tesh, Queensryche, Life of Agony, Dream Theater, Ozzy & Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and all kinds of other silly junk. Yeah, imagine that - you're gonna go to a concert where Pantera is opening for Enya........or John Tesh is opening for Black Sabbath. What a combo.
Each of those musical groups affect me in different ways while I'm on the bike though - and I enjoy them all. But the one album that really does it for me on the bike almost every time......even when I'm having a cruddy day......is Yanni's Live at the Acropolis. The reason?? Many of the songs on the album were used in the CBS coverage of the Tour de France back in the day. It was, I don't know, motivating to hear it again and think of guys like Laudelino Cubino breaking away in the mountains of the Tour. Yeah, it's great. And before you know it, the time is over and you feel great.
Now, if I could only get Tom(my Spinning instructor) to play my music in his classes......it'd never happen......but man, that would be pretty cool if it did!
