Monday, August 22nd - The Bidwell Forest Short-Track Mountain Bike Race - 6:30pm:
This race will start on the north side of the 5-Mile Recreation Area - near the dirt parking lot. Registration will open at 6:00pm for the 6:30pm start. The course will run through the single-track trails in "The Forest" in Upper Bidwell Park. This is an area just north of the 5-Mile Area - in between the 5-Mile and the entry to the North Rim Trail Parking Area. The course is VERY shaded and cool - great for summer racing - and is about 1.1 miles in length per lap......and is almost all single-track. The race will start and finish near the dirt parking area on the north end of 5-Mile, will be 40 minutes PLUS 2 laps. And, again, the course is about 1.1 miles in length, very shaded, and is ALL FLAT - no hills. The Course will be marked with flour arrows on the ground. We will race the course for 40 minutes, at which point I will give you the 2 laps to go sign. GREAT for beginners and Juniors - or those just wanting to get out on your mountain bikes for a spin! Can definitely use a cyclocross bike(Scott Heather won the race the 1st week and 3rd week on a cyclocross bike) - or even a road bike if you wanted - but is a mountain bike race. I will bring out ice water, as usual. For an approximate map of the course, please visit the MapMyRide link at:

RAIN, WET TRAILS OR CLOSED TRAILS WILL ALWAYS CANCEL THIS EVENT.

Tuesday, August 23rd - The Anita Circuit Race - 6:00pm:
While our Tuesday Night Criteriums are on a short break, I thought we'd try out something a bit different. This is a NEW Circuit Race held on a flat 4.25 mile course on/near Anita Road. This race will be a total of 5 laps for "As" and "Bs", and 3 laps for "Cs" and "Juniors". The course is all flat, and fairly quiet. The Start/Finish is on Hamilton Nord Cana Highway - look for me and the R.A.C.E.mobile at the Start Area. Registration will open at 5:40pm, with the "A" group(Advanced & Intermediate Riders) starting at 6:00pm, and the "B" & "C" group starting at 6:02pm. Total distance for As & Bs will be 21.25 miles - and, again, it's all flat - just 5 laps of this flat circuit course. Point-prime laps will be held on laps 1-4 for the As & Bs, and laps 1-2 for the C group. The course follows a clockwise direction going Hamilton Nord Cana Highway - turn right on to Wilson Landing Road - then right on to Leninger Road - then right on to Anita Road - and then right back on to Hamilton Nord Cana Highway. I will have ice water at the Start/Finish. For a map of the course, please visit the following link:

Friday, August 26th - The Cohasset Narrows Road Race - 6:00PM:
We use to do this little Road Race every Friday after work, but haven't done it in a couple of years. So, thought we'd bring it back for one night. Registration will open at 5:40pm on Ryan Avenue on the north end of the Chico Airport - just to the west of the Fifth Sun parking lot(look for me on Ryan Avenue with the clipboard and the R.A.C.E.mobile). The Road Race starts promptly at 6:00pm and will climb to just past the "Road Narrows" & "Share The Road" sign at the top of the wider road on Cohasset Road - just before it narrows. This is a low-key, fun little Road Race - just go your own pace. The course is about 7 miles in length, but includes about 1,400 feet of climbing. I will be there driving SAG, and will have ice water at the Start & Finish locations. The event will be timed as well. This is a great little after-work ride to stretch the legs a bit for the weekend! An approximate map of the course can be found here:

Saturday, August 27th - THE BIDWELL BUMP Mountain Bike Race - In Upper Bidwell Park all day! Please visit the Bidwell Bump website at www.TheBidwellBump.com!

Sunday, August 28th - The Table Mountain Road Race - 9:00AM:
The Table Mountain Road Race is back for the month of August! This particular course was first used by the Chico Velo Cycling Club as a United States Cycling Federation Road Race course back in 1984 during the Chico Omnium(which also included the 7-Mile Lane Time Trial and the Chico Downtown Criterium that year). Most groups did 2 laps of this course, but the Cat.1/2 guys did 3 or 4. However, I wouldn't do that to ya - we're only going to do 1 lap in this race - for a total of approximately 25 miles and approximately 1,400 feet of total climbing. The course preview is located at the following link:
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/47176806/
The Start/Finish Line is located on Table Mountain Boulevard right by Table Mountain Ranch Road - at the Table Mountain Overcrossing.(see map - this was the Start/Finish Line for the 1984 race as well - I'll be out there early, so look for me, the R.A.C.E.mobile and the registration table). Each Category will do just 1 lap = 25 miles. Registration will open at 8:30AM with Category A going off at 9:00AM........and Category B, Category C, Juniors Category going at 9:02AM. Women's, Masters, C & Juniors Categories will start with Category "B", but will be scored separately. Parking is available on the unfinished freeway overpass at the Start/Finish Line.
***Now,
a word of warning about this Road Race - This course goes in a clockwise direction - meaning that you will be climbing up to Cherokee from Hwy. 70. Although the hill does not seem quite as difficult as from the other side(the Wildflower Century side), the descent off Table Mountain will be quite tricky. Make certain that your bicycle is in good working order and that you are comfortable on technical descents. The Road Race course goes through amazingly diverse sections and is quite scenic - but please look out for one another and for yourselves, especially on the descent and on the Highway. All USA Cycling rules apply, as usual - you know, don't do stupid stuff, wear a helmet, obey the centerline, etc. Route Arrows will mark the course as well. Bottle hand ups and Feed Zones will be solely dependent upon volunteers - Feed Zone is pretty much anywhere on the course. Sag vehicles will be solely dependent upon volunteers as well. I will be sweeping the course at the end as well - so if I don't see you back at the Finish, I'm coming to get you!
HELD RAIN OR SHINE!
Helmets are mandatory!
