Anyone know when those Thursday night......

......River Road Time Trials start up again??? I imagine when the rain finally ceases. So, probably June or July......but hopefully May.

What a fun little feeling those races can be - trying to go as fast as you can over the course of a flat 10 miles - without blowing up. Fun. And to think guys like Andy Paulin completed this race in 1983 or 1984 in under 22 minutes week in and week out. Just insane. I remember seeing him before one of these River Road Time Trials - in fact, I think he was regularly getting in the 22-minute range or faster using his 54x12 gear, no aero stuff.

Anyway, he shows up to the River Road Time Trial wearing this cycling cap - and on it, the cap said "District Champion" with the California Bear flag on it. I was like, "How in the hell did he get that cap??? Only Champions get those hats! Where in the world did he buy it???!!!"

Well, I had to tell myself to engage my brain again - 'cause Mr. Paulin had just won the District Time Trial Championships here in northern California the weekend before. Awesome.......I couldn't believe, at the time, that I was in the presence of a District Champ. Of course, I was littler then too. But, I'm still in awe of those Bear jerseys.
